As the best teachers will tell you, the most important questions don't appear on any exam - they are the grand questions you define for yourself, about the world and your place in it.Rising to the challengeDana Hall offers a broad, sophisticated range of courses, coupled with an intense focus on academic skills like research and writing. Through this dynamic combination, you develop the intellectual courage, personal strength and passionate interests to construct your own questions, for college and for life. A foundation of excellence
In the Upper School, beyond the expected core of English, math, science, social science, and foreign language, you deepen your education with requirements in the visual and performing arts; computer science; and fitness and athletics. Ninety-eight percent of Dana girls take four years of math, and nearly as many pursue four years of science, taking advantage of our state-of-the-art science building. Broad horizonsWe offer a wide range of languages, including Latin, French, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese, all taught using our state-of-the-art language lab. To fulfill your Dana requirement in "non-Western" social studies, you can choose from classes focused on the history and culture of Africa, East Asia, Latin America, Russia or the Middle East. In a typical year, we offer 13 Advanced Placement courses. Even more exciting is the School's unique array of electives, including political science, public speaking, architecture and web design. Each of these courses reflects the passionate expertise of Dana teachers, teaching what they love best. Words to live byWe're especially enthusiastic about our success in teaching writing - a skill we emphasize in courses throughout the curriculum, and through an extensive writing portfolio you will build through your junior year. Dana's Writing Lab also offers one-on-one writing advice - whether you're building your skills or working up to your first novel. As our alumnae tell us unmistakably, no other skill they gained at Dana has served them better than the ability to speak and write with confidence, clarity and flair. |
