| Upper School Athletics Policy |

• Practices are held every day after school for Upper School sports. Practice times vary depending on the sport, season, and level. During the winter season, practices vary according to available gym space. Generally, the practices are scheduled between 4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. The ice hockey team practices in the mornings at St. Sebastian's Ice Rink. Locations and times are announced once the teams are selected. Athletes are expected to attend every practice unless they are excused from school for health reasons. • Upper School athletes are expected to attend all games and tournaments. Game days are Wednesdays and Fridays; occasionally, a game is scheduled on another day. If an athlete misses a game for reasons other than health, the result is an unexcused absence and the student will not be allowed to play in the next game, unless she receives special permission. If a student continues to receive unexcused absences, she will be asked to leave the team and return to physical education class. • Athletes are expected to be in school all day in order to participate in a practice or a game that day. If a student misses more than one class for health reasons, she will not be allowed to participate in athletics that day. • If a student is absent the day before a game, she will not be eligible to start in that game. If an athlete misses part of the practice the day before the game, she will not be eligible to start that game. • If an athlete is unable to practice the day before a game due to an injury or sickness, she will not be able to play in the next game. • Good sportsmanship at athletic events is expected at all times for players and spectators. • All athletes must adhere to the Eastern Independent League Mission and the New England School Preparatory School Athletic Council Code of Ethics. A copy of these are printed on every schedule. • All Student Health forms and Authorization for Medical Treatment forms must be on file with the Health Center in order for students to participate in a sport. • All athletes must ride on the Dana Hall bus to and from games and practices. However, athletes may be granted special permission to be picked up from an away game by a parent/guardian if the athletic director and coach have a signed note from the parent before leaving for that game. • Ice hockey players may be granted permission to drive to the morning and evening practices if they live close by the ice rink or if they regularly drive to school. Students may not drive other students to and from practices. Students who elect to drive to and from practices need to fill out a signed permission form/waiver from their parents. • Athletes should make every attempt to stay and watch part of the second game if Dana Hall teams are scheduled back-to-back. • The team bench is reserved for members of the team only. The players who are not out on the field competing are expected to sit on the bench during the game.
