Dana Hall Art Gallery Presents Exhibit by Current Parents

The Dana Hall Art Gallery will showcase "Abstraction/Attraction" from January 7 through February 3. The exhibit features the work of current Dana Hall School parents Chris Gaffney P09 (Photography), Heather Hobler P09 (Painting) and Karin Stanley P10 (Sculpture). An opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15.

Chris Gaffney's photography represents "an abstract view of a world that is often overlooked." Gaffney's work focuses in on the visual effects of time on inanimate objects, including the natural decomposition of things that he believes frequently sprout newborn beauty. He has made one of his goals as an artist to try and capture this wonderful evolution though the eye of a lens.

Heather Hobler creates elegant, layered drawings using ink on vellum to explore the imagery, typography, design, and psychology of magazines and the way people relate to them. Hobler takes the commercial language of glossy periodicals and makes it her own, combining words and pictures in a highly personal way, so that each drawing expresses a unique and idiosyncratic response to the world at large.

Karin Stanley works in stone, metals, and mixed media. As a native of Ireland, she often designs modern sculpture by tapping into the Irish and Scottish influences of light, stone, air, and the spirit of place.

The Dana Hall Art Gallery is located on the second floor of the Classroom Building. The Gallery is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday and Friday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is closed during weekends and school holidays.
