Dana Hall Celebrates Earth Week

Dana Hall will celebrate its second Annual Earth Week beginning Tuesday, April 20. Throughout the week students and faculty will have activities and opportunities to learn about environmental issues and green living.

Earth Week is organized by Dana Hall’s Sustainability Committee, also known as the Green Team, which is made up of students and adults who are focused on environmental concerns as they apply to decision-making at Dana Hall. Initiatives include a presentation about the resources that go into making paper; meals in the Dining Center featuring local food; the collection of batteries, DVDs and other pieces of technology that can be recycled; and the sale of reusable shopping bags made by students

Earth Week also will mark the beginning of Dana Hall’s Anti-Idling Campaign to increase driver awareness of the effects an idling car can have on the planet. Students and staff members will be reminding parents at drop-off and pick-up that a car idling for two minutes creates the same amount of pollution as driving one mile. The Dana community is asking parents to save gas, money and the planet by turning off their engines while dropping off and picking up their daughters.

"We hope that Earth Week will increase community awareness and enthusiasm for environmental issues, as well as empower the Dana community to take small but meaningful steps toward a more sustainable school and lifestyle," commented Science teacher Meera Shah.

Earth Week will conclude with a community Earth Day Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 24 on the Dana Hall campus. Events will take place on the Wayside field (located on Grove Street). The event is open to the public and will include fun and educational activities for all ages. For more information contact Lindsay Worrell at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
