helenmorse.jpgIn 1971, while Morse was a student at Dana Hall School, she took a beginner’s photography course and fell in love with the darkroom. She began to explore colorizing photos in college. By adding injections of patterns and colors, which were not a part of the original photograph, Morse feels she is able to give ordinary subjects a dreamlike quality. This exhibit focuses on her colorizing technique.

“I find myself fascinated with creating the extraordinary from the ordinary and in locating and highlighting the extraordinary in ordinary experience,” Morse said. “The essence of what I find interesting is an exploration of the real and the surreal as they interact with each other within the frame.”

The Dana Hall Art Gallery is located on the second floor of the Classroom Building. The Gallery is open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is closed during weekends and school holidays.
