Dana Hall Honors Winter Varsity Athletes

Dana Hall athletes came up big in the Eastern Independent League this winter season producing two league MVPs and two Coaches of the Year, as well as several respectable finishes in league tournaments.

Varsity Volleyball ended with an impressive 11-4 league record for the season. The team finished second in EIL, second in the EIL tournament, and third in the E.M.V. (Eastern Mass. Volleyball) tournament. The EIL honored head coach Graham Masiiwa as Co-Coach of the Year. J. Eberts ’08 was named the EIL MVP for volleyball and the team’s Best All-Around Player. M. Palandjian ’09 and C. Cecil ’09 earned EIL All-League awards. L. Joukowsky ’10 and N. Lynch ’10 took home All-League Honorable Mention awards. At the Dana Hall awards ceremony, A. Stein ’11 earned Best Defensive Player, and A. Howland ’09 was voted the team’s Most Improved Player.

Varsity Basketball placed second in the EIL and second in the tournament, finishing up their season with a 12-9 record. In addition to being the team MVP, E. Cantor ’08 earned an EIL All-League award. G. Deale ’09 and S. Gray ’10 earned All-League Honorable Mention nods. Deale also took home the team’s Best Offensive Player award. The Coach’s Award went to L. Watson ’08.

Varsity Swimming finished a phenomenal season with six wins and only two losses. The league named team MVP M. Kelly ’11 the EIL MVP for swimming. Varsity Swimming finished second in the league and second in the EIL tournament. The EIL honored Kelly along with C. Blake ’08, A. Balter ’10, K. Nutting ’11, and A. Bertelson ’13 with EIL All-League awards. Nutting also took home the team’s Best All-Around Athlete honor. Most Improved Player went to N. Suen ’08, and A. Balter ’10 was voted Rookie of the Year.

Varsity Fencing ended with a 10-8 season record and went on to place second in the Massachusetts state championships. For the second year in a row, E. Reinhardt ’09 was named Most Valuable Player. She shared the MVP title this year with K. Sweeney ’09. Most Improved Player went to J. Kuenzel ’10 and Rookie of the Year to O. Rabe ’11.  M. Higgons ’08 took home the Coach’s Award.

Varsity Squash finished fourth in EIL, ending their season with a 5-11 record. Coach Nick Lloyd was honored by the league as Coach of the Year. EIL All-League Honorable Mention went to D. Donovan ’11. W. Reimann ’11 was voted the team’s Most Valuable Player, and B. Luby ’09 took home the Most Improved Player award. Rookie of the Year went to C. Haughey ’10.

Varsity Ice Hockey placed fifth in the EIL and ended with a 2-12 season record. G. Ivsin ’08 earned an EIL All-League award and also was voted team MVP. Best All-Around Athlete went to A. Kafil ’10 for her versatility and J. O’Leary ’08 (Dedham) for her skills out on the ice. Best Offensive Player went to K. Laughlin ’14.
