Gallery Features Work by Dana Art Instructor Lauren Sleat

The Dana Hall Art Gallery presents “New Work” by Dana Hall art instructor Lauren Sleat. The show will run from February 12 through March 7. An opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 12. Refreshments will be provided. The exhibit is open to the public.

All of the work in Sleat’s show has been produced in the last eight months. The show includes prints, paintings, and a video installation. While most of the show is printmaking created this summer at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Mass., there are also some collaborative pieces that are quite edgy, somber, humorous, and historical.

“The bodies of work I have are quite divergent. The images I use to reveal my thoughts arrive in forms of rich, historical play on war, (personal warfare, as well as militaristic). I deal with metaphors of class, sexuality, slavery, political positions and organizations such as the Klu Klux Klan,” Sleat said. “These works most often portray the absurdity and ridiculousness of acts taken by such members of this type of organization that have had catastrophic effects on our lives and continue to do so.”

The Dana Hall Art Gallery is located on the second floor of the Classroom Building. The Gallery is open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is closed during weekends and school holidays.
