Green Team Fights Climate Change

Dana Hall’s Sustainability Committee, also known as the Green Team, is running a week-long carpooling campaign beginning Monday, September 26. The Green Team, made up of members of the Dana community who are focused on environmental concerns as they apply to decision-making at Dana Hall, organized the campaign, which coincides with the annual international day for climate change led by the group 350.

350, which represents the safe level in parts per million for carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, is an international group whose mission is to inspire people to rise to the challenge of the climate crisis by creating a new sense of urgency. Each year the group organizes a day committed to climate change awareness. The theme for this year’s day is Moving Planet, an international call for a reduction in reliance on fossil fuels and a push for clean energy solutions.

“Last year more than 7,000 projects ran as a part of the international day for climate change,” said Green Team Co-Head S. Brakeman ’12. “For our project this year, we are running a carpooling campaign to help reduce driving pollution for the week with the hope of it lasting the rest of the year. We encourage students to reach out to neighbors and parents to set up carpools.”

On Sunday, September 25 the Green Team invites Dana Hall students to join them at 11 a.m. for a 3.5 mile walk, also as a part of 350’s day. The group will carry their own spoons to Pinkberry in Wellesley to have a treat without increasing plastic waste.

According to www.350.org, 177 countries have planned events for Sunday. For more information, visit www.350.org.
