International Assembly Shows Culture, Traditions

IA1On Monday, April 12, the Dana Hall community gathered in Waldo Auditorium to celebrate the cultures of its international students. The annual International Assembly gives students a chance to show traditions from their home countries and speak about what their country means to them. The assembly was filled with information, dance and song.

Students from Kazakhstan, Jamaica and Mexico presented slide shows of personal photos and facts about their countries. Three dance routines were performed by students from Hong Kong, Taiwan and China; a traditional song and dance from Thailand was put on by five students; and one student danced to a hip hop song by a popular Norwegian group. After students from Korea performed a modern Korean song and dance routine, the assembly came to a close with a popular Korean instrumental performance in which students used everything from recycling bins to kitchen pots as instruments. In all, more than 50 international students produced and shared the assembly’s program.

"At Dana Hall, the International Student Association (ISA) has a mission to support international students and educate the Dana community about different cultures," said International Student Advisor Donna Corrigan. "At the International Assembly, the girls work hard and take pride in representing their country and culture. The performances are culturally diverse, informative, traditional, modern, festive and fun! They should be very proud of themselves, I know I am."
