Model UN Competes in International Invitational

January 26-29, Dana Hall’s Model UN team attended their third competition of the year at the University of Pennsylvania Ivy League Model UN Invitational.  The program hosted students from 118 schools from 12 countries on six continents.

After four days of intense competition, the Dana Hall team, who represented South Africa in the majority of Committees, passed six resolutions, four directives, earned verbal commendations in four rooms, honorable mention in two rooms and Outstanding Delegation in one room. The team also earned a 9/10 average on all written position papers.

Outstanding Delegate Awards went toM. Chisolm ’13 and M. Fulham ’13. Verbal Commendations were awarded to A. Baez ’12, M. Chisholm ’13, J. Lorthe ’13, C. Plapinger ’12, M. Palandjian ’14 and L. Rasmussen ’13. Honorable Mentions went to C. Morales ’13, A. Truesdale ’13 and T. Wang ’13.

“This year, the conference was much bigger and more intense than in years past,” said Social Studies teacher and Model UN advisor Heather Panahi. “Although we did not win a team award, many of the resolutions were written in part or entirely by Dana Hall students. Our girls were the epitome of not only hard work, integrity and a willingness to seek diplomatic and peaceful solutions to the world’s problems, but were also generous and supportive of one another. It is indeed a privilege to coach such a wonderful group of girls!”

Dana’s Model UN team will travel to Dartmouth College in early April for their next weekend conference.
