Newly Awarded Grant Supports STEM Activities

Dana Hall School was recently awarded a grant from the Margaret Hall Foundation for $10,000 to strengthen the School’ Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) program.

During the past two years, Dana Hall has undertaken initiatives to inform students about options available to them in STEM fields.  In addition, professional development opportunities have been made available to faculty members to assist them in designing activities that promote STEM education, and emphasis has been placed on integrating STEM activities into classes.STEM1

“The recent grant from the Margaret Hall Foundation will help Dana provide more opportunities to both faculty and students,” said Anne Richter, Director of Leadership and Planned Gifts. “We are most grateful for the Foundation’s generosity, and for this exciting opportunity to further expand the STEM program for our students.”

The proceeds of the grant will fund the following:

  • Two additional speakers from STEM fields
  • A mobile Apple Learning Lab to support the curriculum requirement of a half-year technology class
  • Hovercraft and robotics materials
  • Additional field trips
  • Conference fees for a faculty member at the National Coalition for Girls Schools STEM conference
  • Conference fees for a faculty member at Vanderbilt University’s School of Engineering Summer Workshop.

The Margaret Hall Foundation requires that Dana Hall School match the funds provided by the grant.  If you are interested in learning more about the grant, helping match the grant, or know of an organization that might be interested in helping meet the match, please call Anne Richter in the Alumnae and Development Office at 781-489-1368.
