Revels Tradition Celebrates Joy, Kicks off Winter Break

Dana Hall’s Revels play was first performed by faculty and students from Dana Hall, Pine Manor and Tenacre in 1921. On Friday, December 16, the Dana community gathered once again to watch the Class of 2013 perform one of Dana’s most time-honored traditions.

Revels features a medieval play written by former Dana English teacher Constance Grosvenor Alexander. In this student-run performance, members of the community, some dressed in period costumes, enjoy the juniors’ interpretation of medieval life. Each year the junior class makes Revels unique by adding twists and pop culture references to the classic skits.

The Class of 2013 showed off their many talents including acting, singing, and ballet and hip-hop dancing. Annual characters such as the Rabblers, the Jester, and the Sword Dancers were present, as well as special visit from the cast of Harry Potter.

Revels also is a celebration of the Winter Solstice and celebrates Dana Hall’s community spirit. It is a time to come together in celebration before the New Year, as well as mark the beginning of Dana’s Winter Break.
