Soccer Star Teams Up With Dana Hall

KL_with_teamThe Dana Hall School Varsity Soccer Team is partnering with three-time Olympic medalist and two-time World Cup Champion Kristine Lilly. Lilly, a 23-year veteran and former captain of the U.S. National Team, will work with the team as a consultant through 2013. A Needham resident, Lilly is looking forward to not only helping with the Dana team, but teaching private lessons and clinics on Dana Hall’s Wayside Field.

“The chance to interact with young people and have use of a great facility is a win-win for me,” explained Lilly. “This is a unique partnership for me, and I’m looking forward to working with great teachers, great coaches, and helping with a high level of soccer.”

Lilly first became involved with Dana Hall in 2008 when she ran clinics for the Varsity and Junior Varsity soccer teams, and spoke at a school assembly about how Title IX opened doors for her and other girls and women.lil-gameoverweb

“Receiving coaching and advice from a top caliber athlete is a great opportunity for our team,” said Varsity co-captain M. Loomis ’12. “Kristine Lilly is truly an inspiration to all female athletes and has taught us the importance of pushing ourselves and each other in order to improve.”

In addition to helping the varsity squad on the field, Lilly looks forward to participating in school events off the field. “I want the students to get something out of my time here, soccer or otherwise,” remarked Lilly. “I’m excited to have an avenue to reach the community through soccer as well as through my life experiences.”

Director of Athletics, Health, and Wellness John Suby views the relationship with Lilly as an added value to the entire Dana Hall community. “Kristine has seamlessly involved herself with our school,” said Suby. “It is almost to the point where I have to pinch myself to remember she is one of the best soccer players of all time. Having her around in the future excites all of us: student athletes, coaches and parents.”
