In February, 25 Dana Hall students stood out from thousands of entries and received awards and honorable mentions in the 2012 Massachusetts Scholastic Art Awards. After the state competition the art portfolio of J. Kim ’12 earned national recognition from The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers.

Elephant 1Students who receive this honor have been identified by panels of professional artists as the most talented young artists in the nation. This year, 200,000 works of art and writing were submitted. Only the top 1,500 were recognized at the national level.

The theme of Kim’s portfolio was elephants, and consisted of both paintings and drawings. A native of Seoul, Korea, Kim will attend Wellesley College in the fall.

Kim has been invited to attend a ceremony at Carnegie Hall on June 1 and to participate in showcase events at Parsons The New School for Design in New York City.
