Summer Leadership Program Returns to Dana

The second year of Dana Hall’s Girls Summer Leadership Program (GSLP) begins Saturday, June 23 with 32 girls arriving for the eight-day, seven-night program. GSLP is open to girls who have completed eighth grade and will enter any high school in the fall.

The Girls Summer Leadership Program seeks to cultivate in its participants Dana Hall’s core values of integrity, leadership, diversity, and service, as well as respect for self and others. In specially-designed workshops and activities, the participants will build leadership skills focusing on communication, decision making, collaboration, conflict resolution, anti-bullying and ally training, problem solving and understanding differences. The program provides girls with a unique opportunity to prepare themselves for the challenges and choices they will face as high school students.

GSLP 070111_549In addition to other Dana Hall faculty members, Dana Hall high school mentors and young alumnae mentors, nationally-acclaimed author and psychologist Dr. JoAnn Deak, Ph.D. will provide instruction on girls and self-esteem, as well as exploring how and why girls lead differently.

Participants have access to the School’s technology, fields, classrooms, Dining Center, and the Shipley Center for Athletics, Health and Wellness. Activities include a local service project, learning public speaking skills, rock climbing and a chef’s challenge.
