Varsity Athletes Honored

While it was a year of transition for the Dana Hall fall sports teams, Dana athletes proved they could still come out as winners.

The Varsity Soccer team exceeded expectations posting an undefeated league record of 8-0-2. The team placed second in the Eastern Independent League (EIL) and finished third in the tournament. R. Boyle '09, H. Hoar '09, and Team MVP C. Quinn '08 were honored with EIL All-League awards. EIL Honorable Mention awards went to standout players S. Gray '10 and E. Wineland-Thomson '08. Wineland-Thomson also was honored for her work on and off the field with the Coach's Award. Rookie of the Year went to D. Donovan '11.

Under the direction of two new coaches, including former field hockey U.S. Olympian Edie Mabrey and Dana Hall science teacher John Doll, the Varsity Field Hockey team boasted a very respectable season. While they were a young team, they had a successful year and are looking toward a promising future. The team placed fourth in the EIL and finished fourth in the tournament. Within their league, the Dana Hall finished with a solid 5-2-1 record. New England Prep School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) All-Star awards went to A. Campanelli '09 and C. Haughey '10 (Wellesley) for their outstanding season play. Campanelli and Haughey also received the EIL All-League awards. All-League Honorable Mentions went to Team MVP C. Bowser '08 and A. McPartland '09. Haughey and G. Ivsin '08 took home Best Offensive Player awards. O. Beckwith '09 proved she was a force to be reckoned with in her first year and took home the Rookie of the Year award.

The Varsity Cross Country team also went through a year of transition. Head coach Kera Vanderspek '02 led a smaller Varsity team, as this was the first year the team was split into Varsity and Junior Varsity squads. The team finished with a 10-9-0 season record, placed 10th in New England Prep School Track Association Tournament, and placed fourth in the EIL. H. Chisholm '09, who was voted the team's Best All-Around Athlete, placed 17th out of 94 runners at the NEPSTA Tournament and she also was selected as an EIL All-League All-Star. K. Brauer '09 and A. Gelb '11 earned Honorable Mention nods from the league. Most Improved Player went to J. Anderson '08, and Rookie of the Year went to Gelb  for her impressive first season.
