Faculty Bios

Rita Corey, Piano
An active teacher, performer and choir conductor, pianist Rita Corey received her BA from the University of Rochester. Ms. Corey currently serves as the Organist/Director of the Junior and Senior Choirs at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Foxboro, and is on the faculty at All Newton Music School as well as the Dana Hall School of Music.

Esther deGrunigen, Violin
A graduate of Vassar College and Boston University, Esther has been an active teacher and freelance musician in the New England area for over 20 years. Her appointments have included the Longy School of Music, the Rivers School of Music, and Kinhaven Music Camp. She has served on the string faculty of the Dana Hall School of Music since 1990.

Joseph Demko, Horn
Hornist Joseph Demko is an active performer and teacher throughout New England. He currently holds the positions of Second Horn in the Albany (NY) Symphony Orchestra, Second Horn in the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, and Fourth Horn in the Plymouth Philharmonic. Demko is also a regular freelance musician, and has performed with the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, Opera Saratoga, the New Haven Symphony, the New Hampshire Music Festival, and many others. In addition to being on the faculty at the Dana Hall, Joseph is also the horn instructor for the Wellesley Public Schools. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the New England Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Daniel Katzen and Richard Mackey of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He has also studied both horn and conducting with Sylvia Alimena of the National Symphony Orchestra. Demko grew up in Alexandria, VA and has been living in the Boston area since 2002. 

Mike DiBari,
Guitar
Mike DiBari’s musical education started in New York City at the Manhattan School of Music where he studied classical guitar with Nicholas Goluses and the great Mme Segovia. In 1994 Mr. DiBari earned a Bachelor degree from the Berklee College of Music in Boston where he further honed his skills as a guitarist learning from jazz masters Jon Damian, Jim Kelly and Jon Finn. Mr. DiBari has also studied jazz guitar with Harry Leahy (who won a Grammy for his work with Phil Woods), and the legendary Pat Martino. In 1996, he formed the Mike DiBari Swingtet and the following year released his first CD Jumpin' The Blues on his own Palomino Records label. The CD received favorable reviews, was picked up by Hepcat Records and was distributed worldwide. In an effort to shine a brighter spotlight on his guitar playing and compositional skills, he formed the Mike DiBari Trio which has performed, recorded and toured throughout New England.

Greg Dickinson, Oboe
Oboist Greg Dickerson has studied at the New England Conservatory, the Cincinnati Conservatory, where he received the Marcel J. Dandois Award, and the Interlochen Arts Academy. He has performed with the Gardner Chamber Orchestra, the Dayton Philharmonic, the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, and the Baton Rouge Symphony and in chamber music settings worldwide with travels to Japan, Portugal, Luxembourg, and Germany.  Dickinson has attended summer festivals at the Kennedy Center, the Chatauqua Institute, Park City, and at Sewanee, University of the South.  His principal teachers include Mark McEwen, Mark Ostoich, and Daniel Stolper. He has also studied with Humbert Lucarelli, Earnest Harrison, Christopher Philpotts, Elaine Douvas, and John Mack.  He currently performs as a member of the Arneis Chamber Music Ensemble, at the core of which is the award winning Arneis Quartet. When not playing the oboe, Dickinson maintains a busy schedule as a maitre d' and sommelier at Boston restaurant, L'Espalier. He also finds time to play the piano occasionally, sings, visits museums regularly, and very much enjoys cooking for friends and loved ones.

Daniel Doña, Violin/Viola
Dr. Doña teaches throughout Boston and has served on the faculty at the Dana Hall School of Music since 2007. Dr. Doña received his BA in Philosophy from the University of Chicago where he was awarded the inaugural David Fulton Award, and received his Master's in Viola Performance from the University of Oklahoma where he studied with Matthew Dane (viola) and Felicia Moye (violin). At Boston University he received his Performance Diploma and DMA and was a two-time recipient of the String Department Award. Dr. Doña is a co-founder of the Arneis Quartet and Ensemble and an active soloist and chamber musician whose performances have been broadcast on CBC Radio 2 and WCLV. He is currently assistant principal viola of the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra and plays with the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra and the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra. An active pedagogue, he has presented masterclasses at the University of Connecticut, Northwestern University Music Academy and Miami University.

Natalie Erlich, Piano
After receiving her early training at Juilliard Pre-College, Ms. Erlich received her Bachelor and Master's degrees in Piano Performance from New England Conservatory. While there she was the winner of the 2005 Borromeo Quartet Guest Artist Award, the 2006 Commencement Concerto Competition and the 2006-2007 Chamber Music Honors Auditions. In high school Ms. Erlich co-founded the Hunter Piano Trio; a winner of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center's Young Musicians Competition in 2000, 2001 and 2002. Ms. Erlich has performed at Jordan Hall in Boston, Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Hall, Weill Hall, the Juilliard Theater, the 92nd Street Y in New York and in Europe. Ms. Erlich has been featured four times on the Young Artists Showcase on WQXR, New York's classical radio station, and has worked with prominent living composers such as Leon Kirchner, Malcolm Peyton and Michael Gandolfi.

Natalie Favaloro, Violin
Originally from Sydney, Australia, Natalie Favaloro made her solo debut at the age of four after only one year of study. She has performed around the world as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician in places such as Germany, Austria, Switzerland, England, the United States, South America, New Caledonia and France. Ms. Favaloro has also participated in several international festivals in Hawaii, Vienna and Amberg Spoleto in Charleston, South Carolina. A graduate of New England Conservatory’s Master's and Graduate Diploma programs, Natalie now lives, teaches and performs in Boston and is a member of the Albany Symphony Orchestra in New York as well as the Associate Concertmaster of the Cape Cod Symphony and Concertmaster of the Neponset Valley Philharmonic. Ms. Favaloro makes guest performances with orchestras throughout the Boston area, Maine, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and in her hometown with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra during the summer.

Susanne Friedrich, Cello
Born in Vienna, Austria, Ms. Friedrich studied cello at the Vienna Conservatory and baroque cello at the Tirol State Conservatory in Innsbruck. Her private teachers included Josef Luitz and Max Engel as well as masterclasses with Misha Maisky. A frequent soloist and chamber musician, Ms. Friedrich has performed with both modern and baroque/classical orchestras throughout Austria, Europe and Asia. Ms. Friedrich also worked as a freelance cellist and teacher at the Vienna Conservatory Prep School. She performs regularly with ensembles throughout New England including the Nashua Symphony, Springfield Symphony and Masterworks Chorale, and serves on the faculties of New England Conservatory Preparatory Division, the Dana Hall School of Music, St. Mark’s School and the Rivers School Conservatory.

Jennifer Gaul, Director
Gaul is the Director of Dana Hall School of Music. From 2005 – 2010 she was the Executive Director of Turtle Bay Music School, a community music school in mid-town Manhattan serving more than 2,000 students each year with a wide variety of music programming. Her professional experience is in music, arts education and arts administration. She has worked with a variety of organizations including The Philadelphia Orchestra, Pennsylvania Ballet, Chorus America, Center for Arts Education and Young Audiences New York. She earned her Master of Music in Piano Pedagogy and Literature from the University of Texas at Austin and also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Rhode Island.  For more than 20 years she has been a piano teacher, ensemble coach and early childhood music educator.

Tera Gorsett, Violinist
A native of Denver, Colo., Gorsett began her violin studies at the age of 2.  She earned both a Bachelor's and Master's Degree from Boston University where she studied under Bayla Keyes.  She has attended Tanglewood Music Center, The Banff Center in Canada, and the International Festival Institute at Roundtop, Texas.  Gorsett enjoys an active freelance career throughout the New England area. She currently holds positions with the Boston Philharmonic, Rhode Island Philharmonic and the Springfield Symphony Orchestra. She can also be seen performing regularly with the Boston Landmarks Orchestra, Boston Lyric Opera, Portland Symphony, and the Boston Pops, among others.  As a touring musician, Ms. Gorsett has toured all across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Gorsett joined the faculty at the Dana Hall School of Music in 2011.

Sarah Henderson-Bailes
, Voice
Sarah received her undergraduate degree in Voice Performance from Westminster Choir College, and her Master's in Vocal Pegagogy from NEC. A winner of the 2004 NATS competition (National Association of Teacher Singing), Sarah has performed several leads in various opera productions in New Jersey and Boston, and in choral works with the New York Philharmonic.

Fumei Huang, Voice/Piano
A native of Taiwan, Dr. Huang received her undergraduate diploma from Fu-Jen University in voice and piano performance and her Master's and Doctoral degrees from Boston University in vocal performance. She has performed as a soloist in the United States and Asia and has served on several music school faculties around New England, including the Dana Hall School of Music, the Suzuki School of Newton and the Yamaha Music Institute.

Lilly Kinas, Voice
A graduate of the Hartt College of Music, Lilly Kinas has an extensive performing and teaching career throughout New England. Her faculty appointments include the Dana Hall School of Music, Anna Maria College, the Charles River School and the Meadowbrook School. Ms. Kinas also maintains a private teaching studio in Wayland. As a musical theater professional, she has served as Music Director for productions such as Pippin, Fiddler on the Roof, Baby, Funny Girl and Roar of the Greasepaint, Smell of the Crowd. Lilly has performed in recitals throughout New England and Israel, and can be heard on the CD Sleep My Child, a collection of Jewish Lullabies.

Robert Lasher, Guitar
Robert Lasher studied guitar with Guy Simeone and Hopkinson Smith at The Longy School of Music. Robert also studied solfege with Judy Ross and counterpoint with Victoria Glazer. He received a MM from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston where he majored in guitar performance and studied with David Leisner and Robert Sullivan. Mr. Lasher also studied Indian Modal Improvisation with Abby Rabinowitz. As well as teaching guitar at the Dana Hall School of Music, Mr. Lasher teaches at The Rivers School Conservatory where he serves as Chair of the guitar department. He performs solo recitals, which include original compositions, as well as collaborations with flute, violin, oboe, voice and piano. Several of his guitar compositions have been premiered by his students. He released Weight of Time, an album of original music for guitar and is currently releasing a second recording, Horizons, an album of original compositions for guitars and percussion. As well as classical guitar, he enjoys teaching and playing traditional and popular music.

Ian Lindsey, Piano
Ian Lindsey has been on the faculty of the Dana Hall School of Music since 2000. After graduating from the Walnut Hill School of the Performing Arts, Ian Lindsey continued his studies with Randall Hodgkinson at The New England Conservatory where he received both his undergraduate and Master degrees. He has performed regularly throughout New England and the northeast, with virtuoso repertoire such as the complete sets of etudes by Chopin, Liszt and Rachmaninov; Goyescas by Granados, and Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsodies, which is he currently recording. Mr. Lindsey has won the Arlington Symphony Orchestra competition and was a recipient of the St. Botolph award for promising musicians.

Angela Longo, Flute
Angela Longo holds a Bachelor in performance from The Boston Conservatory of Music, and a Master’s degree in performance from The New England Conservatory of Music. A Young Artist Competition winner, she has been a soloist with both the Boston Symphony and Boston Pops. Angela currently freelances in the Boston and Worcester areas and is an active music educator, having served as an adjudicator with the Massachusetts Music Educators Association, and as a member of the Board of Directors for the Pappoutsakis Flute Competition. She is a pre-school music instructor in Marlboro; a flute teacher for the Wellesley Public Schools; and a faculty member of the Dana Hall School of Music, where she has taught and served as the director of flute ensembles for 19 years.

Megan MacFadden
Meghan MacFadden holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Illinois, and has done additional graduate work in Instrumental Literature and Conducting at Sam Houston State University. She has taught as a middle and high school band director in Illinois, Texas, and Massachusetts. As a performer,  MacFadden has played flute and piccolo with the Illinois Wind Symphony and can be heard on the Mark Custom recordings of the group’s performances at the Krannert Center and Orchestra Hall in Chicago.  She studied flute with Donna Milanovich, Alexander Murray, and Dr. Jonathon Keeble, as well as performed in masterclasses with Thomas Robertello and Donald Peck. Growing up in Chicago, MacFadden studied piano at Northwestern University and with Melody Lord of the Chicago Symphony Chorus.  In 2008 she was the pianist and Featured Performer for the original cast of the music-in-motion stage show "Odyssey" during their 28-city tour of Japan.  In addition to piano and flute, she teaches lessons on all wind instruments, with specialties in saxophone and high brass. 

Kanako Nishikawa
, Piano
A native of Japan, Ms. Nishikawa received her Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from the Toho-Gakuen School of Music, her Master’s degree with Honors from the New England Conservatory of Music and an Artist Diploma in Piano Performance and Chamber Music from the Longy School of Music. Ms. Nishikawa has attended the Aspen Festival and is a Fellow at the International Musical Arts Institute in Maine. An active soloist, recitalist and chamber musician, she has performed throughout the United States, Europe, Israel, Malaysia and Japan with prestigious artists such as members of the Boston Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, Montreal Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Dallas Symphony and Minnesota Orchestra. She has studied with Richard Goode, Lucas Foss, Menahem Pressler, Beveridge Webster, Anton Kuerti, Gabriel Chodos, Eda Mazo-Shlyam, Tong-Il Han, Hiroko Edo and Sachiko Fukuoka, both privately and in masterclasses.

Linda Poland, Clarinet
Linda Poland received degrees in clarinet performance from the New England Conservatory of Music (MM) and the University of Maryland (BM), where her principal teachers were David Weber, Peter Hadcock and William Wrzesien. Ms. Poland performs regularly as Principal Clarinet with Kammerwerke and Second/E-Flat Clarinet with the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra. She also performed as Second/E-Flat Clarinet of the Albany (NY) Symphony Orchestra for thirteen seasons, and with the Boston Ballet Orchestra, Plymouth Philharmonic, Portland Symphony, Rhode Island Philharmonic and Boston Lyric Opera. She currently serves on the faculties of the Dana Hall School of Music, Milton and Newton Public Schools and Dedham Country Day School.

Wendy Vignaux, Flute
A graduate of The Boston Conservatory, flutist Wendy Vignaux has an active freelancing and teaching career in and around Boston. She has performed with such groups as the Civic Symphony Orchestra of Boston, the Wellesley Symphony and Kammerwerke, and has also presented solo and chamber music recitals with the ensemble Trio Con Brio. Ms. Vignaux's teachers included Leone Buyse, Lois Schaefer and Julius Baker. She serves on the faculties of the Dana Hall School of Music and the Wellesley Public Schools extension division.

Laura Wilkins, Flute
A graduate of The Boston Conservatory, Laura Wilkins has been teaching flute in the Boston area for over 25 years. She is currently on the faculty of the Dana Hall School of Music, and also teaches at the Needham and Hopkinton public schools, as well as from her home studio. Also an active performer, Ms. Wilkins plays flute and piccolo with the New Philharmonia Orchestra and with the chamber ensemble Trio Con Brio. Ms. Wilkins studied flute with James Pappoutsakis and Phillip Kaplan, formerly of the BSO. She has also been a participant in masterclasses with Jean-Pierre Rampal, Louis Moyse and Gary Schocker.

Jan Zimmerman, Voice/Piano
Mezzo-soprano Jan Zimmerman has most recently appeared on stage in Perigueux, France as the title role in Offenbach’s La Belle Hélène. In addition to the standard repertoire, she has premiered works of contemporary composers, most recently Jonathan Blumhofer’s To Anacreon in Heaven. Ms. Zimmerman, a native of Panama City, Florida, is also an accomplished cellist and pianist. She graduated with her Master of Music Degree in Voice Performance from The Boston Conservatory in 2006 and her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music from Palm Beach Atlantic University in 2004. In addition to an active performing career and teaching at Dana Hall School of Music, Ms. Zimmerman teaches private voice and piano at Riverside Theatre Works and Arlington High School.
