The School of Music is an important part of the life of a Dana Hall student. All Dana Hall students (6th through 12th grade) are welcomed and encouraged to study instrumental and/or vocal music at the School of Music. All music offerings, including private instruction and ensembles, are considered part of the Performing Arts Department of Dana Hall and adhere to the performance/academic standards set by Dana Hall. All music lessons and ensembles are for the full academic year and adhere to the Dana Hall trimester schedule. All music lessons and/or ensembles (middle and upper school) will appear on school transcripts with either a letter grade and comments (for those earning a half credit) or Pass/Fail and comments. Late registrations are accepted through the second trimester on a Pass/Fail basis only. Credit or Pass/Fail: For Upper School students only, there is an option to take music lessons for a 1/2 credit, which fulfills the Dana Hall performing arts requirement. Students enrolled for a half credit have additional requirements beyond attending their weekly lesson. These requirements include attending at least three (3) performances hosted by the music school, participating in a student recital and attending a free music school workshop. Students also have the option of taking a music lesson on a pass/fail basis. The main requirement is to attend the weekly lesson although all music school hosted performances and events are available and encouraged. Make Up Lessons: Music instructors are only obligated to make up lessons they have missed. Unexcused absences are NOT available for make up under any circumstances. Excused absences with notice to the music instructor will be made up during the assigned make up week at the end of each trimester or, if possible, at a mutually agreeable time for the student and instructor. More than two (2) unexcused absences will impact a student's grade and comments. Withdrawal from Music Lessons or Ensembles: Students may drop with no penalty during Dana Hall's official academic add/drop period in the beginning of Trimester I. If an upper school student withdraws from lessons after the add/drop period, she will receive a WD on her transcript and will be ineligible for honor roll in that trimester. For both middle and upper school students, withdrawals in the first trimester will receive a refund for Trimester II and III. Withdrawals in the second trimester will receive a refund for Trimester III only. There are no refunds for drops after February 1st. Tuition: Lesson tuition is full year (30 weeks). All tuition payments are billed directly through Dana Hall's business office and are as follows: Registration |
