Below is a list of Upper School Student Clubs & Organizations for the 2010-11 School Year.

AGAPE

AGAPE is the Christian-based club at Dana Hall. This club meets to talk about life issues and how faith is intertwined in everyday living.

AV Club

Members of the AV Club coordinate all the technical needs for Morning Meetings, X-Block presentations and for any special speakers and guests.

Best Buddies

Best Buddies International is a high school program committed to enhancing the lives of people with mental retardation by providing opportunities for one-to-one friendships. Dana Hall students involved in the Best Buddies club are matched with a buddy for an entire year. The hope is to establish foundations for genuine friendships by meeting someone new, hanging out and having fun together, getting to know one another, thus enriching the lives of both.

Big Sister/Little Sister

Big Sister/Little Sister is a program that coordinates a group of current students to act as "big sisters" to incoming students. Each returning student is paired with a new Upper School student - both new to Dana Hall and from Dana Hall's Middle School - who has similar interests. Big Sisters serve as a resource by contacting students before the school year begins and during orientation activities. The pair will have an ongoing relationship throughout the year.

Blue Key

Blue Key is a student organization that works closely with the Admission Office to give campus tours to prospective students and their families.  Blue Key members provide visitors with a student perspective and act as a resource for the community.

Bridge

Bridge is Dana Hall's gay/straight/bisexual/transgender alliance. This group is committed to bridging the gaps of ignorance and fear that divide us by providing education to the school community and a forum for discussion and support of issues such as homophobia, oppression, and sexism.

Community Service Advisory Board

The Community Service Advisory Board is a club that meets regularly to discuss, facilitate and implement Community Service programs, projects and events.  Members of the Community Service Advisory Board apply to be on the board and take initiative of projects throughout the year that involve the entire Dana Hall community. The board not only educates the community about issues that need attention, but also organizes efforts to get involved. Through drives, fundraising, participation in walks, and involvement in numerous charities, the Community Service Advisory Board works together to include the Dana Hall student body to make a difference in the lives of those in need.

Dana Hall Memory Project

Members research Dana history in the archives & share findings with teachers and the community. The students work to help us improve the student body's appreciation and understanding of Dana's past and its place in history, as well as helps teachers bring Dana History into the classroom. Activities include research in archives, interviewing alumnae and discussing findings.

Disciplinary Committee

The Disciplinary Committee is a committee of students and adults who address violations of school rules and regulations, and questions of serious and/or continuous abuse of school rules. The six DC members and the two All-School Presidents take turns sitting on the committee for a particular case and meet at alternate times to discuss disciplinary issues affecting the school community and ways to further educate the student body about the guidelines of the School.

Environmental Club

The Environmental Club is dedicated to educating the Dana Community about issues relating to the environment. A key focus of the club is recycling in the Upper School.

Focus

Focus is a club is for those students who are currently working on the school yearbook. Members of Focus are responsible for all layout and design, as well as much of the photography, for the annual yearbook. Students in all grade levels (9-12) are welcome to join. No experience necessary.

Gospel Choir

The Gospel Choir gives all students an opportunity to learn, perform, and enjoy gospel music. Regardless of religious affiliation, the choir is a gathering of students who love to feel the joy that gospel music can bring to their lives and to the lives of others!

Hallmanac

The Hallmanac Club offers the opportunity for students to write articles in the Hallmanac, Dana Hall's newspaper. During club time, students brainstorm ideas for articles, assign writers, and edit finished articles. All are welcome; even if those who do not wish to write but want to offer their ideas and perspectives.

International Student Association (ISA)

ISA's mission is to support international students and educate the Dana Hall community about different cultures. ISA does so by hosting regular events such as monthly International Coffees and by planning the International Dinner, International Week, and the International Assembly.

K2K

K2K is Dana Hall's peer tutoring program. With tutors for most subjects, any student having difficulty in a particular subject may contact K2K to be matched with another student who has had experience with the same topic. K2K pairs usually meet weekly for as long as necessary.

Kesher

Kesher is Dana's Jewish Student Youth Group where members are involved in community service projects as well as activities that encourage Jewish learning and thought. Kesher is open to all religious denominations.

Mirage

Mirage is Dana Hall's Literary Magazine.  All students are invited to submit their writing, artwork and photography and members of the Mirage Club vote on entries and compile the magazine.

Model U.N.

Model U.N. Club teaches students to prepare for and participate in debate competitions in New England and throughout the U.S. Club time is used to prepare for debates and organize trips to competitions.

Outing Club

The Dana Hall Outing Club brings together members of the Dana Hall community interested in learning about and embarking on outdoor activities, such as hiking, camping, canoeing and kayaking.  The Club's goal is to host one overnight hiking/camping trip per trimester.  All students are welcome to try, regardless of experience.

Peer Education

Peer Educators are a vital component of Dana Hall's Health Education Program.  In addition to teaching the Forum Program for Grades 6-9, Peer Educators are involved in facilitating student/parent education nights and they design and maintain a health information bulletin board. Peer Educators attend monthly training sessions.

PRINTS: People Recognizing Injustices in Need of Thoughtful Solutions

Formerly known as Dana Hall's chapter of Amnesty International, PRINTS members research and learn about world issues and then decide what they can do to help.  Their goals are to raise awareness in the Dana Hall community about issues affecting the world community.

Proctors

Proctors are students who provide leadership in the dorms.  Each dorm has at least one student proctor who acts as a liaison between the House Director, House Assistant, and the students.  Proctors work together as a group, meeting weekly throughout the year to plan activities and discuss boarding life issues.

SHADES

SHADES (Sisters Honoring All Diasporas & Enlightening Society) is Dana Hall's multicultural awareness club, organized to give students a forum to discuss events and issues, and provide education that relates to multiculturalism at Dana Hall School.

Student Activities

Members of the Student Activities Club work with the Student Activities Coordinator to help brainstorm and plan weekend activities. Students interested in enriching weekend life gather weekly to talk about what can be done to make sure weekend activities are successful and satisfying to the community.

Student Council

Student Council considers the overall life of the School and provides proactive solutions, through proposals and open forums, to issues in the community. Student Council meets weekly and members include the Dean of Students, the All-School Co-Presidents, and two elected students from each grade (one boarding and one day student).

Student Proposed Clubs:

  • Math Club (10-11): for students to share their interest in math and to improve their math skills by participating in math competitions.
  • The Red List (10-11): a club which focuses on bringin attention and support to endangered species protection.
  • Dr. Dana (10-11): publishes a bi-annual newsletter with student composed articles about health and related science/social issues.
  • Ski & Snowboard Club (10-11): gives students a chance to talk about what is current in the world of skiing and snowboarding. The club will also host a ski trip at least once a year.
  • Harry Potter Club (09-10): provides a space for students to share their love for the J.K. Rowling series.
  • Philharmonic Benefit Club (09-10): a group of students/musicians who love music and who dedicate their time and talent to participate in the annual charity concert for Partners In Health.
  • Mock Trial Club (08-09): part of a nationwide organization in which students prepare prosecution and defense for trial simulation. Mock Trial Club give members the opportunity to look deeper into how the law works.
  • O-Ambassadors ('08-'09): a national organization - a product of the fusion of Oprah's Angel network and Free the Children - that encourages students to examine global issues, including reducing poverty and hunger and improving education.
  • Movement of Fine arts (MFA) ('08-'09): a club whose goal is to "move" people emotionally with art. The club brings Dana artists together to exhibit their artistic talent to the public and it features two strands: one focusing on drawing and painting and the other on fashion design and dance. Each stand will choose a yearly project.
