International Applicants

All applicants who are not US citizens are considered international applicants. Green Card holders and US permanent residents who have spent most of their life outside of the United States are also considered international applicants. Dana Hall only provides I-20 forms to students in grades 9-12. Please note that our boarding option begins in grade 9. Applicants to grades 5-8 must live locally with an immediate family member and are not eligible for an I-20. 
 
Dana Hall does not accept mid-year applications; all new students begin in at the start of the academic year in September.

Dana Hall applicants must create a Ravenna account and follow the steps for submitting required materials. You will be able track your application status, register for events, schedule your interview, and view your decision in Ravenna. You may apply through SAO or Gateway to Prep Schools, however, you must have a Ravenna account. A Ravenna account is critical for receiving important application updates and for staying engaged in the Dana Hall admission process. 

You must create your Ravenna account and be in applied status before scheduling your interview.

Application Steps

Dana Hall does not offer a formal ESL or ELL program; therefore, international applicants must be proficient in speaking, listening, writing, and reading to succeed in our vigorous academic setting. All international applicants who do not speak English as a first language must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). 
 
Most students admitted to grade 9 achieve a TOEFL (iBT version) score of 5 or above on the new band scale or 100 or above on the previous scale. Dana Hall considers all application materials, in addition to testing, in order to best determine an applicant’s potential fit at Dana Hall.

TOEFL score reports must be sent directly from ETS using our school code: 7507.

Dana Hall also accepts Duolingo and IELTS as an alternative to TOEFL. We do not accept the SLEP test or TOEFL Junior test.

In addition to English Proficiency Testing, all international applicants are required to submit math and literacy standardized testing. Qualified tests include the SSAT, ISEE, or other school testing (such as state-administered exams, ERBs, or MAP Growth) taken within the last calendar year. 

Score reports must be sent directly from the testing organizations using our school code: 2728 for SSAT, 222275 for ISEE. We cannot accept score reports sent by consultants, schools or families. If you have difficulty scheduling one of these tests, please contact the Admission Office.

Dana Hall provides I-20 Forms to international boarding students in grades 9-12. In order for a student to receive an I-20 Form and apply for an F-1 Visa, a student must first apply, be admitted, and enroll at Dana Hall.

According to United States regulations, families requesting an I-20 Form must also provide the School with financial certification and proof of the applicant’s citizenship before creating an I-20 Form.

All enrolled boarding students are required to have an Emergency Guardian in the event of student illness (including COVID-19), quarantine requirements, campus closure, or other emergency. The guardian is required to assume custody of their student within 24 hours of school communication.

Although priority is given to U.S. Citizens, we do provide financial aid to international students on a limited basis.

To apply for financial aid, non-U.S. tax filers should complete the Clarity application (utilizing a currency converter), making sure to mark the appropriate box stating that each parent/guardian does not file U.S. tax forms. 

Additionally, families who do not file U.S. taxes must submit their 2024 and 2023 income tax forms from their home country, three consecutive months of your most recent bank statements, and letter(s) from your employer(s) on company letterhead confirming your employment and salary.
