International Application Guidelines

Application Requirements

All applicants who are not US citizens are considered international applicants. Green Card holders and US permanent residents who have spent most of their life outside of the United States are also considered international applicants. Dana Hall only provides I-20 forms to students in grades 9-12. Please note that our residential life program begins in grade 9. Applicants to grades 5-8 must be US Citizens or US permanent residents, living locally with an immediate family member.

Dana Hall does not accept mid-year applications; all new students begin in at the start of the academic year in September.

Dana Hall applicants must create a Ravenna account and follow the steps for submitting required materials. You will be able track your application status, register for events, schedule your interview, and view your decision in Ravenna. You may apply through SAO or Gateway to Prep Schools, however, you must have a Ravenna account. A Ravenna account is critical for receiving important application updates and for staying engaged in the Dana Hall admission process.

You must create your Ravenna account and be in applied status before scheduling your interview.

TOEFL Testing

Dana Hall does not offer a formal ESL or ELL program; therefore, international applicants should have the English proficiency in speaking, listening, writing and reading necessary to succeed in our vigorous academic setting. All international applicants who do not speak English as a first language must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

Most students admitted to grade 9 achieve a TOEFL (iBT version) score of 100 and above. Dana Hall considers all application materials, in addition to testing, in order to best determine an applicant’s potential fit at Dana Hall.

TOEFL score reports must be sent directly from ETS using our school code: 7507.

Dana Hall does not accept the SLEP test or TOEFL Junior test.

SSAT/ISEE Testing

In addition to the TOEFL, all international applicants are required to submit SSAT or ISEE score results.

Score reports must be sent directly from the testing organizations using our school code: 2728 for SSAT, 222275 for ISEE. We cannot accept score reports sent by consultants, schools or families. If you have difficulty scheduling one of these tests, please contact the Admission Office.

F-1 Visa and Immigration Process

Dana Hall provides I-20 Forms to international boarding students in grades 9-12. In order for a student to receive an I-20 Form and apply for an F-1 Visa, a student must first apply, be admitted, and enroll at Dana Hall.

According to United States regulations, families requesting an I-20 Form must also provide the School with financial certification and proof of the applicant’s citizenship before creating an I-20 Form.

Financial Aid

Although priority is given to U.S. Citizens, we do provide financial aid to international students on a limited basis.

To apply for financial aid, non-U.S. tax filers should complete the Clarity application (utilizing a currency converter), making sure to mark the appropriate box stating that each parent/guardian does not file U.S. tax forms.

Additionally, families who do not file U.S. taxes must submit their 2022 and 2021 income tax forms from their home country, three consecutive months of your most recent bank statements, and letter(s) from your employer(s) on company letterhead confirming your employment and salary.

Applying through SAO or Gateway?

Dana Hall also accepts applications from the Gateway to Prep Schools application, as well as the Student Application Online (SAO). Applicants using the Gateway or SAO application do not need to complete the Ravenna application forms; however, applicants must create a Ravenna account, regardless of which application you use.

Please note: Applicants using the SAO should be certain to complete the Dana Hall supplemental form found on that application.
