INDIVIDUAL LESSONS

Dana Hall School of Music offers two, 16-week semesters (fall and spring), in addition to a flexible summer session. Students may register for lessons at any point during the year, as studio space is available. For late starts, tuition is pro-rated through the end of the semester. Students schedule a weekly lesson day and time for a duration of either 30, 45 or 60 minutes. Lessons may be scheduled Monday-Saturday, depending upon teacher availability. All lessons take place at Dana Hall School of Music, as we believe that learning in an environment dedicated to music is important for the student and offers benefits beyond that of most home lessons. Since incorporating online lessons into programming during 2020-21, however, we are currently able to honor students’ specific requests for online-only lessons.

PROFESSIONAL MUSIC FACULTY

There are more than 30 professional musicians at the School of Music. Our music faculty are active teachers and performers in and around Boston. Faculty members commonly present their own performance events throughout the year at Dana Hall’s Beveridge Hall. These concerts are open to the public.

ENSEMBLES AND GROUPS: TEENS AND ADULTS

Chamber ensembles, as well as contemporary and rock ensembles, may be arranged to meet the needs and interest of community music students of all ages. Our most recent ensemble has been a Youth Cello Ensemble, composed of four like-experienced cello students.

EARLY CHILDHOOD LESSONS & LEARNING

We offer a modified approach to traditional Suzuki teaching for our youngest piano, cello and violin students. Our lesson-based program involves parental participation but not the rigorous Suzuki schedule (only one lesson per week). A minimum age is not specified to begin lessons, as each young student demonstrates readiness for individual lessons on an individual basis. Developing abilities to follow instructions, maintain focus and isolate finger movements are meaningful indicators that children may be ready for individual instruction. We welcome young children for an introductory lesson and together assess a child’s readiness for individual lessons.
 
We periodically run group programming for preschool-aged children as a precursor to private lessons, including Pre-Instrumental Piano. Please inquire about our current early childhood pre-instrumental offering.

PERFORMANCES

Performance is an important part of the experience at the School of Music. We believe that sharing music with others is an enriching experience for both the students and the community. Performing helps teachers and students set goals and achieve them. We strive to create performance opportunities that nurture each student so that performing becomes something natural and enjoyable.

RECITALS

Student recital opportunities are presented twice per month from November to June, and we strive to make the experience welcoming and positive for students. Students may perform in as many recitals as they’d like. Recitals are held at various times throughout the week and weekend at Beveridge Hall on Dana Hall’s campus (across from the School of Music). For a more intimate musical experience, some recitals are held at the School of Music. Given COVID-19 requirements, some recitals will be offered online. 

FACULTY PERFORMANCE SERIES

Many Dana Hall School of Music faculty members, together with their performing peers, present concerts in Beveridge Hall (on the Dana Hall campus across from the School of Music). These concerts are open to the public. Each concert features one or more of our highly regarded faculty members as well as guest artists. School of Music faculty members are active and sought-after performers in the Boston area and beyond. Diverse and creative programs highlight this performance series and provide a valuable cultural resource to the Wellesley community.
 
The Wellesley Chamber Players ensemble calls Dana Hall School of Music its home. Founded and directed by Dana Hall School of Music faculty, the ensemble brings world-class chamber music series to the Wellesley community. To underwrite this special concert series, a suggested donation may be requested at the door.

FLEX PASS PACKAGE

The Flex Pass offers adults scheduling flexibility and the opportunity to try a new instrument (or get reacquainted with an old one) before making a long-term commitment. Each Flex Pass includes eight individual lessons that are scheduled at a date and time that is mutually agreed upon by the teacher and student. Adults may enroll at any time and the Flex Pass is valid six months from the purchase date.
