On Wednesday, January 15, two Dana Hall student-athletes signed celebratory letters to compete at the collegiate level this fall. A. Orent ’20 will play volleyball for Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., and K. McCormick ’20 will play field hockey and lacrosse for Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, N.Y.
Orent was co-captain of the Varsity Volleyball team for the 2019 season. She was named Eastern Independent League (EIL) All League in 2017, 2018 and 2019 and EIL Honorable Mention in 2016. She earned the All New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Award in 2019 and NEPSAC Honorable Mention in 2018. Orent earned the Dana Hall Coach’s Award in 2017 and was named Most Valuable Player in 2019.
McCormick is a three-season varsity athlete in field hockey, squash and lacrosse. In her role as goalie on the Varsity Field Hockey team, she improved from six saves in the 2018 season to 41 saves in the 2019 season. On the Varsity Lacrosse team, she improved from a 32% save percentage in 2018 to a 49% save percentage in 2019.
“Orent and McCormick’s passion for their sports have been clear to me since I arrived at Dana,” said Rebecca Kimball, director of Athletics, Health and Wellness. “It is important to recognize the hours of work and dedication that goes into being a successful student-athlete. We are very proud of these two young women for excelling in the classroom and in athletics. They are great role models for our younger student-athletes who wish to pursue their dreams of playing in college.”
"My favorite Dana Hall memory would be the first time I ever sang the Alma Mater with my fellow classmates. That was most definitely the first time I felt like I was truly a part of something. Joining hands with my future Silver Sisters made me truly feel like I was a Dana girl."
