A Championship Weekend

A Championship Weekend

The Karen Stives ’68 Equestrian Center (KSEC) hosted the 2024 Athletic Equestrian League (AEL) National Championships May 11-12, featuring 18 teams from seven states as far away as Virginia and 264 riders. The KSEC brought in 30 horses each day, along with 10 Dana Hall School horses.

“I was blown away with how hard not only our AEL Team worked but also our IEA [Interscholastic Equestrian Association] Team,” said Christine Twohig, Equestrian Center Instructor and Horse Care Coordinator at the KSEC. “The kids were great, and they made it possible to successfully run such a fantastic show. These kids worked all day horse-holding and helping run the show, all while showing and supporting each one of their team members! They had amazing sportsmanship all weekend.”

The Dana Hall AEL Team had an impressive showing, and earned the title of 2nd place Reserve National Champions, with many riders placing well in large divisions and two Dana Hall horses — Saint and Melvin — that won Pony and Horse of the Show, respectively.
