Excellence in Winter Athletics

This month, Dana Hall’s winter varsity athletic teams closed the books on their successful seasons. At the end-of-season banquet, coaches honored achievements in swimming, squash, fencing, ice hockey, basketball and diving, and recognized outstanding players with individual honors. The year-long equestrian season continues, with several athletes advancing to Zones Finals.

Season Highlights

  • Varsity Swimming finished 1st in the Eastern Independent League (EIL) for the 15th consecutive year. The team also won the EIL/ISL Championships.
  • Varsity Fencing earned a bronze medal (3rd place) at the Massachusetts State Championships.
  • Varsity Squash came in 4th at the Division 3 New England Championships and 4th at Nationals in Philadelphia. The team was also awarded the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Division 3 Sportsmanship Award.
  • N. Simmons ’27 was voted the Swimmer of the Year by EIL coaches.

Equestrian

On February 28, the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) Team competed at the Region 4 Finals, where the Upper School team earned Reserve Champion and the Middle School team captured the Champion title, advancing to Zones Finals at the end of March.

This year, riders and teams needed to earn first place in order to advance to Zones. Seven teams competed in Dana Hall’s region, with some classes featuring up to 15 competitors. Dana Hall riders rose to the challenge, winning eight of 14 individual classes and placing first or second in 20 of 26 total classes.
