A Different Venue for Collaborative Learning

Recently, the Dana Hall and Belmont Hill School Economics classes gathered for a joint presentation on presidential politics by political consultant and Belmont Hill parent Peter Flaherty. This year marks the third year of a partnership between the two schools that began out of conversations between faculty at Belmont Hill and Dana Hall’s former Upper School Director Jessica Keimowitz. Both were looking for opportunities to create some collaborative touchpoints academically between the two schools, said Social Studies teacher Brian Cook.

“The students get exposure to some of the leading-edge thinking in Economics,” Cook said, “and they practice exercising their voice in a new and different venue.”

During the 2023-24 school year, the two schools plan to meet 4-5 times, holding three or four symposium-style talks with outside experts. Cook said they also are planning to build opportunities for students to present their work to and with each other this spring.
