Capturing Cousins

Capturing Cousins

The Dana Hall Art Gallery presents “Cousins,” a photographic exhibition by photographer and Guggenheim fellow Kristen Joy Emack, on display from February 19 to April 10. Please note that Dana Hall School is closed for Spring Break from March 7 to 22.

The exhibition showcases selections from Emack’s decade-long portrait series, which documents the childhood of her daughter and nieces. “Cousins” is rooted in personal relationships and shared history. It offers viewers an intimate window into the girl’s evolving inner lives and their constant connection to each other. This series is notable for resisting stereotypes and tropes — centering self-agency, communion and reliance on one another as the heart of the work — and their lives.

The Dana Hall Art Gallery is open to the public from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday when school is in session. If you're planning to visit, email Visual Arts Department Head Michael Frassinelli.
