On Saturday, May 31, Dana Hall School held its 144th Commencement Exercises at which the Class of 2025 crossed the stage and became the School’s newest alumnae.
After the procession of faculty and graduates, Head of School Katherine Bradley welcomed students and their guests, followed by remarks from Board of Trustees Chair Courtney Caruso ’05.
Phoebe Scott ’25 was selected by her classmates to deliver the Senior Address, and she remarked on the growth the 78 members have made over the last four years. “We have learned when to ask for help and when to help others, and that we can always count on our sisters no matter how far we sail away,” Scott said. “We have learned how to be bold, effective leaders and how to respond and appreciate others when it’s our time to be led. We have grown into strong young women ready to take on whatever the world has in store for us next.”
Trustee Ari Williams ’08 took to the podium after Scott and delivered the Commencement Address. In her speech, Williams shared three lessons she wanted the seniors to remember, including the fact that teammates brighten the path. “Sisterhood matters, and you’ll need to have each other’s backs in the season ahead because when the road twists, having a team that supports you is the surest way to navigate the unknown,” she said. “Graduates, if hearing this sounds familiar — it should. It should feel familiar. Because that’s Dana Hall. This school is your first team.”
Associate Head of School Rob Mather P24, 26 announced the graduates, and Bradley, Caruso and Outgoing Director of Upper School Amy Kumpel presented each with their Dana Hall diploma.
Outgoing Upper School English Faculty Member Julia Bucci delivered closing remarks, sharing her good wishes for the graduates. “Today, you will cross a threshold,” she said. “As you do so, may you be lifted up by the love that surrounds you. Know that this love is so powerful, so ever-present, that even when you’re by yourself, you are never alone.” She ended with a personal sentiment: “May you know in your heart that all the good things your teacher have said about you are true. So go now. Cross that threshold. You have our blessing.”
After putting their arms around each other and singing the Alma Mater for the last time this year, the newest Dana alumnae received hugs and congratulations from their teachers and families.
