Congratulations to C. Kuang ’24, N. Wang ’24, S. Wang ’24 and I. Yan ’23 who traveled to New York City to represent Massachusetts at the National Economics Challenge (NEC) finals at the beginning of June. The team placed 4th in the country in the first-time competitors’ division.
The team competed in four elimination rounds of competition throughout the spring, including winning first place in Massachusetts. On June 6, they placed 4th at nationals in a competition that came down to a deciding final question. Their competition was broadcast live on CNBC.
Upper School Math Teacher Ryan Chiu was asked by the students to be their faculty advisor. Only a handful of teams comprised of all girls have made it to the finals, which host Steve Liesman mentioned during the competition.
“The students really loved the process of learning and competing this year, and are incredibly proud to have been one of four teams at the finals,” Chiu said. “This has certainly sparked or reinforced an interest for many of them, and they’re excited to continue next year in competitions and clubs. It was wonderful to watch their process in becoming a cohesive team throughout the year.”
