Supporting the Next Generation of Educators

On Friday, November 1, Dana Hall welcomed 17 students and administrators from historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) who are participants in the Building Bridges annual Fall Career Exploration Program. The St. George's School initiative is designed to provide aspiring educators with an opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of independent schools. Dana Hall was one of four schools the group visited during their three-day program in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

The participants represented HBCUs from across the country, including Clark Atlanta University, Delaware State University, Howard University, Morehouse College, Morgan State University and Spelman College. They spent the morning at Dana Hall, where they took a campus tour, met with administrators, visited classes in the Upper and Middle School, and had lunch with members of SHADES, Dana Hall’s Black and Latinx student affinity group.

“We were delighted to welcome such a dynamic group of aspiring educators to Dana Hall School,” said Assistant Head for Admission and Strategic Initiatives Angela Brown. “Our hope is that they will choose to pursue careers in independent schools, and especially at Dana Hall. Our HBCU guests asked thoughtful questions and made great connections with teachers and administrators, and Dana Hall students had an amazing opportunity to learn firsthand about the benefits of attending an HBCU.”
