Dana Hall honors those who demonstrate exceptional commitment to the School through their financial and philanthropic plans with membership in the Helen Temple Cooke Society.
The Helen Temple Cooke Society was established to honor the memory of Helen Temple Cooke, who served as the leader of Dana Hall School for 52 years. Her extraordinarily long tenure was dictated by her love of learning, and she was dedicated to providing young women with rigorous academic training. Miss Cooke stewarded the school carefully with a vision toward the future.

To join the Helen Temple Cooke Society, please let the School know about your plans for Dana Hall, and we will be happy to include you with the other visionaries who have made Dana Hall School a priority.

  • Bequests

The easiest way to join the Helen Temple Cooke Society is to include Dana Hall School in your will or trust. If your will is written already, you may add the School as a beneficiary by including a codicil (amendment) to your will.
    You may specify:
    • An exact dollar amount
    • A percentage of or all of your residuary estate
    • A particular asset
    • Life income gifts
An outright bequest to Dana Hall School may be worded as follows: “I give, devise, and bequeath to Dana Hall School, a charitable corporation established by law at Wellesley in the state of Massachusetts, the sum of $______________ or _____________%( or, all my right, title and interest in the property as described herein) to be used as the Trustees there of shall determine.” (or, here you may designate a specific fund or program).

A contingent bequest would be worded as follows: If (insert name) is not living at the time of my death, I give, devise, and bequeath to Dana Hall School, a charitable corporation established by law at Wellesley in the state of Massachusetts, the sum of $______________ or _____________%( or, all my right, title and interest in the property as described herein) to be used as the trustees thereof shall determine.” (or, here you may designate a specific fund or program).

  • Life Income Gifts

A life income gift allows you to make a gift to Dana Hall School and provide income for yourself or others for a period of time before the School benefits from your gift. Life income gifts are attractive because they offer tax benefits and can increase cash flow to the donor or another beneficiary.

    Charitable Gift Annuity

A charitable gift annuity allows you to contribute assets such as cash, securities, or property to Dana Hall School and retain a life income from those assets for yourself, your spouse, or another beneficiary. A charitable gift annuity allows you to take an immediate income tax deduction for a portion of the gift, and, in the case of appreciated securities, avoid the capital gains tax.

    Charitable Remainder Trust

A charitable remainder trust allows you to make a gift to Dana Hall School while receiving income for life. You can receive either fixed or variable income depending on the type of trust you choose. The charitable remainder trust also allows you to take an income tax deduction for a portion of the gift and avoids immediate capital gains tax.

    Charitable Lead Trust

A charitable lead trust allows you to contribute the income from an asset to Dana Hall School while retaining the ownership of the asset. Dana Hall School receives the income for a designated period of time, and after the time period lapses, the asset and any subsequent income reverts to the donor, the donor’s spouse, children, grandchildren or a designated person. This gift offers immediate and future tax savings.

"In my Literature Composition I class we did a poetry unit before winter break. Our poetry project was in collaboration with a school in Turkey. We created our own websites to display our works of poetry. The last day of school before winter break we were able to Skype with the kids from the school in Turkey, and it was so much fun to interact with students who were so far away. We were able to learn what their school was like, and how their classes worked."
