Girls learning, leading, succeeding

Pitch Perfect

The Girls Summer Entrepreneurship Program (GSEP) culminated Wednesday in a pitch competition called the Dragon’s Lair. Similar in style to the popular TV show Shark Tank, teams pitched their product to a panel of three judges who crowned first and second place finishes.

During the 11-day program, participants develop a product, solicit customer feedback, develop a marketing plan—including financials—and pitch it to a panel of investors (the judges). Team Bui came in first place, with LocAlarm as the runner-up.

The judges:
  • Vicky Wu Davis, founder and executive director, Youth CITIES
  • Devin Hill P18, executive director and financial advisor, J.P. Morgan Securities
  • Anupendra Sharma P23, global VP of Growth & BD for Siemens Healthineers and founder of the Startup Leadership Program

The products:
LiteKnock wants to solve roommate communication issues. The product is a customizable LED light with adjoining app that allows roommates to let one another know when they want privacy to study or have friends over.

"I love playing basketball at Dana. Our team is really like a family, and we’ve grown so much over the three years I’ve been on the team. My freshman year I never would have thought that we would be able to win the EIL league, but this past winter we did! What makes the team so great is how we look out for each other on and off the court. My teammates are my biggest supporters and it’s always great when we get to welcome new members onto the team. I can’t wait to be captain next year."
